BANDOL
2018 Rosé Domaine Tempier
Still in tank at the end of February, Tempier's 2018 Bandol Rose marks another successful vintage for this consistent standout. It's light to medium-bodied, not overly ripe or rich, but all about balance and refreshment. Tangerine and melon aromas and flavors hit all the right notes, lingering on the already elegant finish. Drinking range: 2019 - 2021 Rating: 89-92 Joe Czerwinski, www.robertparker.com (May 2019)

Shimmering orange. Fresh pit fruit, red berry and floral qualities on the highly perfumed nose, along with suggestions of dusty minerals and orange zest. Juicy, focused and lithe on the palate, offering intense nectarine, red currant, strawberry and candied lavender flavors supported by a spine of juicy acidity. Shows outstanding clarity and mineral cut on a very long, sappy finish that strongly echoes the floral and pit fruit notes. Drinking range: 2020 - 2025 Rating: 93 Josh Raynolds, www.vinousmedia.com (Aug 2019)
Tempier is better known for its deep reds made on steep vineyards in Provence, but it also produces a jolly good rosé. It is bone dry, with pleasing red fruit and a lovely aftertaste. Will Lyons, The Sunday Times (Jul 2019)
Domaine Tempier
Domaine Tempier is an old family estate, owned by the Peyrauds since Lucien Peyraud married Lucie Tempier in 1936. The family was largely instrumental in getting the appellation of Bandol established in 1941. The reds are the quintessential expression of Mourvèdre, grown on terraced vineyards on steep hills around the 'plan du Castellet'.
Traditional vinification using indigenous yeasts, the wines are aged in a variety of different sized oak (25 to 75hl) for between 18 and 20 months. These are wines which are capable of long ageing, but even young they have a finesse of fruit and earthy flavour, coupled with fine-grained tannins, which lift them above the generality of Provençal reds.
