As the England squad fly home, having been unceremoniously knocked out of the World Cup by a half blind refereee and a rather good German team, we have received our first shipment of wines from Glenellay Estate, the realisation of May de Lencquesaing’s Stellenbosch dream.
May de Lencquesaing is perhaps best know as the doyenne of Bordeaux’s Chateau Pichon Comtesse de Lalande in Pauillac, which she sold to Louis Roederer before ‘retiring’ to her new home in Stellenbosch. Having bought some beautifully sited vineyards, employed some of the very best winemakers, and put all of her ‘bordelaise’ expertise into the project, she has released a wonderfully drinkable ‘Grand Vin’ which is fabulous value. However, all the more exciting will be the Autumn release of ‘Lady May’, a beautifully made Cabernet Sauvignon which will appeal to every great wine lover, and especially those no longer able to afford Pichon Lalaande (which includes me!). Look out for our ‘pre-shipment offer’.
