Today’s releases all have firm advocates. We think du Tertre looks the best buy – from the village in the Médoc which many think has produced the vintage’s most consistent success.
2015 CHÂTEAU DU TERTRE , as Neal Martin says, giving it 91-93, ‘Alexandre Van Beek might have produced his best du Tertre to date’. This is a solid performer year in year out, but there is an extra something about this wine which makes it, as Jancis Robinson says says, ‘a good herald of the vintage’ – she gave it 16.5.
2015 ALTER EGO, the second wine of highly-rated Chateau Palmer, is championed by James Suckling (94-95), but other critics are less enthused and the price is no giveaway – but it does have a very lovely supple texture and Antonio Galloni (90-93) noted ‘its balance and overall harmony are first-rate’.
2015 CHÂTEAU LA LAGUNE is a wine that produced an even better reaction from Jancis Robinson – 17 points and ‘one of the most exciting Lagunes I can remember.’ Steven Spurrier thought it ‘An exciting wine; a real classic’ (94/100, Decanter.com). Other critics were more divided, and at this price we’d suggest that Langoa Barton is a wine we’d rather have in our cellars, but if the sample they tried was a better representation, who’s to say?
2015 CHÂTEAU DE FIEUZAL – the sample we saw of the red was perhaps a particular barrel. Neal Martin was excited by this ‘another really quite stupendous Pessac-Léognan that is going to be a joy to drink over the next 20-25 years.’ (92-94).
We also have a small quantity of 2015 CHÂTEAU DE FIEUZAL Blanc which again had a great reaction from one critic – James Suckling (95-96) ‘one of the best whites from here in a while’. Neal Martin gave this 90-92.
