After a bit of a sleepy start yesterday following the May Day Bank Holiday, things have begun to get moving in Bordeaux today with the release of three great value wines.
CHÂTEAU CAPBERN came out towards the lower end of our estimate at £170 for 12. “Don’t miss it” says Antonio Galloni, and we quite agree, this is a highly drinkable Saint Estèphe that you will not need to cellar for very long before enjoying.
Also out today is CHÂTEAU LABÉGORCE at £240 per 12. With 94-96 points from Neal Martin and James Suckling proclaiming “This may be the best Labégorce ever. Full-bodied and dense yet vivid and energetic. Greatness in the making.” this is a wine that is punching above its weight and one we recommend if you’re after a Margaux at a sensible price.
Also making potentially their “Greatest ever?” (James Suckling, though Neal Martin expressed the same sentiment) wine is CHÂTEAU D’ARMAILHAC. It has been released at £195 per 6, which is ever so slightly above our top estimate, but we would encourage you not to let this put you off. There is a lot going on here, and the wine’s structure indicates that there are really great things to come when this has had some time in the bottle. Volumes on this are down 25% on last year, so do let us know as soon as possible and we will do our best to secure you an allocation.
