Yves Confuron’s Burgundies are a long-time favourite at LEA & SANDEMAN and, once again, Tim Atkin MW in his 2012 Burgundy Special Report highlights their greatness. Garnering impressive scores are the Domaine Confuron-Cotetidot Grand Crus – 97 points for the Charmes Chambertin 2012, 96 for the Clos Vougeot 2012 – but these are wines of minuscule availability. With enough availability to make it into our Burgundy offer (but still, as with practically all of 2012, short on supply) are the following,
2012 GEVREY CHAMBERTIN 1er Cru Craipillot Domaine J. Confuron Cotetidot (£468)
“Made, as ever, with 100% whole bunches (like everything else at Confuron-Cotetidot), this 0.5ha plot mixes young and older vines. It’s more Chambolle than Gevrey in style, with the emphasis on elegance and supple flavours. But the whole bunches give it some sap. Light bodied and fine, with a sweet, red-fruited core. 2018-26”

2012 NUITS SAINT GEORGES 1er Cru Les Vignes Rondes Domaine J. Confuron Cotetidot (£498)
“If you like your Nuits Premiers Crus to have some firmness and backbone to them, this is your wine. The tannins are on the firm side, but they are supported by plenty of fruit concentration, with flavours of fig and black plums, pepper and clove spice and a dense, compact finish. It’s all there, but will take time to come together in bottle. 2020-28”

Yves Confuron is also the régisseur at Domaine de Courcel in Pommard, which come with the predictably ample scores from Mr Atkin.
2012 POMMARD 1er Cru Grand Clos des Épenots Domaine de Courcel (£357 – 6 bottles)
“It’s hard to choose between this and Les Rugiens from the same domaine in 2012, such is the quality of both bottlings from the outrageously talented Yves Confuron. This is a dense, concentrated wine, but it’s sappy, lively and refined too, with marked, savoury whole bunch characters on the nose and palate and succulent fruit sweetness. 2018-30”
