Great excitement surrounds the new releases of 2010 Brunello.
L&S has worked for a long time as exclusive UK importers of highly-rated Brunello producers Fuligni and Collemattoni, both of whom make wines true to the style of traditional Brunello, with an eye to modernity, but without the excessive use of new oak, which has momentarily led to a change in style and character of many of the wines in the region.
2010 Brunello di Montalcino Fuligni
“It’s really a great wine” Roberto Fuligni
“A fabulous red. Drink now but hold for years ahead. 98/100” James Suckling
“Amazing length and bite” 17.5/20 Walter Speller, JancisRobinson.com
2010 Brunello di Montalcino Collemattoni
“a generous, decadent Brunello” 92/100 James Suckling
These are wines that really require at least a few years in bottle (while the 2008 vintage is perfect for drinking now, but will go on, and the 2010’s look as though they will develop over many years) but with a few hours in a decanter can be enjoyed this year. Collemattoni’s wine is always a little more forward, because of their location (to the south of Montalcino in Sant’Angelo in Colli) and style of winemaking, while Fuligni’s requires more time because of the tighter and finer style. The Fuligni vineyards are in the heart of the best classic sites in Montalcino ‘proper’, north-facing slopes below the town itself which are a little cooler and allow a longer, slower maturation.
You can read more about Fuligni and see the older vintages we have in stock here, and for Collemattoni here.
