Out this afternoon is the hugely impressive CHÂTEAU LARCIS DUCASSE (£480). Antonio Galloni declared it ‘One of the stars of the vintage – 94-97 points‘ and we loved it. For those who missed out on the (very) popular Château Canon, this wine from Nicolas Thienpont is one to consider. A well-priced, high performing St Emilion Grand Cru Classé, with ‘98-99 points‘ from James Suckling and described by Neil Martin as ‘an excellent Larcis-Ducasse that should offer 3-4 decades of drinking pleasure.’ It is worth bearing in mind that the 2005 vintage of this wine is now trading for more than £1700 and the 2010 at £900, so this has to be recommended at £480.
Also out are three solid St Julien performers:
2015 CHÂTEAU GLORIA (£285) this is up on last year, but still recommended as this is a wine you will be delighted to have in your cellar. We also liked 2015 CHÂTEAU TALBOT (£400) – Jancis Robinson notes -‘Absolutely classic claret for early drinking‘ – this is always worth considering for drinkers and is solidly pleasing in 2015. The final St Julien release of the day is Gloria’s ‘big brother’ 2015 CHÂTEAU SAINT PIERRE yours for £420.
