Today sees the release of CHÂTEAU BATAILLEY , a real favourite of ours this year from Paulliac at £207 per case of 6 IB. 2015 saw the creation of a second wine here (‘Lions de Batailley’), and the grape selection has dramatically improved the quality of Batailley itself. It received some superb scores from the critics, with 93-95 from Neal Martin, 17+ from Jancis Robinson and 95-96 from James Suckling.
Jane Anson, Decanter, says:
“A lovely vintage that has power but is just the right side of big extraction. Good persistency with a coffee-scented finish. This is a buy, for sure.”
Also out today is CHÂTEAU LILIAN LADOUYS St-Estèphe priced very sensibly at £170 per case of 12 IB. A solid performer over recent years and 2016 is no different, with Neal Martin giving it 91-93 points, very respectable at this price point. This will offer plenty of enjoyment over the next two decades with little damage to the bank account. Certainly worth considering if you need to refill the cellar with good drinking Bordeaux.
