Our grower’s champagnes like the ‘Latitude’ from Pierre Larmandier offer so much more quality and interest for the price than the traditional ‘Grandes Marques’. With the grapes grown, picked and vinified in-house, this gives much greater control over the quality of the wines and the ability to shape a natural house style.

Is there’s a better way to spend an August Friday at “work” than wandering through a verdant Kentish vineyard with the sun glinting through the foliage and a gentle breeze wafting up from the sea?

Celebrate the Champagne & Sparkling Wine win with us! We were absolutely delighted to win Specialist Merchant of the Year Award for Champagne & Sparkling Wine. As you our customers will know, not only are our 'shelf' prices for Champagne consistently competitive, but also our low 'case prices' on Champagnes can almost always be enjoyed on the odd bottle mixed in with a case of other wines.

This is serious stuff. As it hits the glass there is a huge mousse, you can sense the wine and the bubbles, bursting to get out of the bottle after nearly 12 years in the cellar. This soon subsides into a very gentle, beading bubble. Fresh, driven and powerfully mineral – tasting young, despite its fabulous age this will no doubt settle down in 6 months or so to be a wonderful, intense yet balanced Champagne.

On Sunday the 6th of April the 160th Oxford vs Cambridge Boat Race will take place. A brilliant event, steeped in history, of which we are enthusiastic supporters; not least because it passes so close to two of our shops in Barnes and Chiswick.

A whistle-stop trip to Bollinger has been a great reminder of just how good this Champagne House is. From the outset it is clear that at Bollinger they really do not cut corners in their efforts to make the most of the raw materials they have.

Closing the shop on Christmas Eve (we are open until five tomorrow) is always a challenge and I may have to see if I can sneak off a bit early to get to my favourite carol service. The charm is worth it - the tiny thirteenth century St Philip's church of Little Rollright has no electricity, and so the rare services here are entirely candle-lit.
