There have been a fair number of ‘ifs’ about the 2019 Bordeaux En Primeur. The first and perhaps biggest was the ‘if it would happen’. With most of the world in various states of lockdown, Primeur week cancelled and critics unable to taste, the situation in April looked pretty bleak.

Out this morning from Saint Estèphe is CHÂTEAU LES ORMES DE PEZ at £250 per case of 12 IB. We really enjoyed this wine on the two occasions we tasted it, and the critics seem to have shared our enthusiasm.

Angélus (released today at £1700), with Pavie, was elevated to the ‘Premier Grand Cru Classé A’ level in 2012, alongside Ausone and Cheval Blanc, so this is for them a big deal, although recently in London Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal agreed that nothing had really changed in terms of how the wine is made.
