One of the great thrills of working in this business is the chance to get into the cellars and taste wines straight from the barrel with the winemaker. To taste a wine in its most natural, 'un-mucked-about-with' state is a great experience.

'En Rama' style sherry is something we have championed since it first hit the market 8 years ago when Gonzales Byass released their fabulous, limited release Tio Pepe - straight from the barrel. 'En Rama' is the purest, least 'mucked-about-with' wine you can get your hands on, a rare chance to taste wines straight from the barrel just as the cellar master finds it.

As advocates of 'En Rama' style sherries we were very pleased to discover that Lustau were joining in and releasing a range of their own unfiltered sherries. A fino from each town in the sherry triangle, Jerez, Sanlúcar and El Puerto Santa María. For us the Fino from El Puerto is the stand-out.

The ‘en rama’ phenomenon was started by Gonzalez Byass, who released their first Tio Pepe ‘En Rama’ sherry in celebration of their 175th birthday. It caused a sensation and has been released every year since.

Mas Fino? Por favor! La Gitana Manzanilla Fino 'En Rama', Hidalgo Anybody who bought Gonzalez Byass' Tio Pepe 'En Rama' this year will know by now what a great wine it is, and will surely be ready for yet more fabulous sherry to drink this summer! Shortly after this year's Tio Pepe release we were offered a tiny quantity of Hidalgo's stunning Manzanilla La Gitana ' En Rama'.
