Arnaldo-Caprai
The Caprai winery and vineyards lie on the hillside below the Umbrian hilltop town of Montefalco. Founded in 1971 by Arnaldo-Caprai Caprai, and now in the hands of his son Marco, the estate has become the leading producer of Sagrantino wines in the region. Sagrantino shows no resemblance to any of Italy's other grape varieties, and is almost exclusive to the region of Montefalco - it is thick-skinned, small bunched and small-berried, but big in every other way: colour, tannins, acids, extracts, and sugars.
European Winery of the Year 2012 - The innovative Arnaldo Caprai Winery has helped revive Umbria’s indigenous grapes, bringing the wine region into the international spotlight for its production of Sagrantino di Montefalco. The Wine Enthusiast www.winemag.com
Marco Caprai has long led the way in Montefalco. These 2006s are Caprai’s best wines yet and capture all of the promise they showed when I tasted them from barrel a year ago. Simply put, readers will not want to miss these fabulous wines. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, www.RobertParker.com
