When one of our great friends in Spain told us that he had purchased some old Bobal vines, we could hardly contain our excitement. Francisco Santiso (who is also behind Eidos Albarino and Pazo da Maga Godello) started making wine with a group of friends from these vines with incredible results. From 3ha of a single parcel called 'La Pinada' in Utiel Requena - the home of great Bobal - on alluvial and clay soils, these bush-vines were planted in 1958. The combination of a high altitude (750m) and the Mediterranean climate have created some beautifully balanced and expressive wines. This humble project has already grabbed the attention of critics, and we can't wait to see what next is in store.
