VERMENTINO

2011 Domaine les Yeuses

Grapes Vermentino
Colour White
Origin France, Languedoc-Roussillon
ABV 13%

Vermentino from the French Mediterranean coast with citrus and dusty minerals, in this vintage with extra ripeness and rounded feel. Very sophisticated wine at its price level, and better by miles than anything we have found in Italy (where this grape originates) at up to twice the price. L&S (Feb 2012)

Think herbs, hedgerows and citrus. If you like proper wine rather than one so mass-produced it’s all smoothed off at the edges, you’ll struggle to find a better house white at the price.Victoria Moore, The Daily Telegraph (Dec 2012)

Fragrant with lemon and apricot, slightly grainy, making it quite firm and dense even with all that aromatic freshness. Nice mineral touch too. GV Rating: 16 Julia Harding MW, www.JancisRobinson.com (Nov 2012)

If you thought independent wine merchants didn't do value, then here's a wine to challenge your preconceptions. It's an immactulately clean, crisp, perky and pithy white, with a lip-smacking lime-skin tang and a rounded mouthfeel. Rating: 88 The Wine Gang - www.thewinegang.com (Oct 2012)

Domaine les Yeuses

Domaine les Yeuses is the source of our exceptionally good 'house' wines from the Languedoc-Roussillon, and they just get better with every vintage. Mediterranean in style with fresh, bright fruit flavours. Between the coast and countryside, Domaine Les Yeuses was built in the 13th century by the Templars at the site of an ancient Roman villa. The estate gets its name from an ancient forest of evergreen oak trees (“yeuses” in the local dialect). Today, sadly, they have nearly disappeared, but are being replaced by a path of olive trees. The vineyard of Domaine Les Yeuses comprises over 80 hectares (197 acres) of limestone-rich gentle slopes which enjoy a maritime breeze. This unique location suits a wide variety of grapes. The estate has been in the Dardé family for more than 30 years. Jean-Paul and Michel, brothers, share the vineyard and wine-making responsibilities.
