2013 was a great vintage in Tokaj – classic with lots of botrytis, lots of concentration. Quite similar to 2019, just slightly cooler and botrytis arrived slightly earlier. This is a blend of 75% Furmint, about 10% Hárslevelű and 15% Zéta. RS 156 g/l, pH 3.2, TA 7.6 g/l. Disznókö's general manager László Mészáros says that 10 years old is about the time that Aszú wines start to hit their stride: 'They're impressive when young, powerful, but at 10 years old they are a bit more settled and serious and complex.' This wine just doesn't seem to age! It's astoundingly concentrated, an extravagance of pineapple, mango, honey and quince. It hums with electric energy, tiny pops of lime-green voltage arcing through the luscious sweetness of the fruit. It has the weight and feel of brocaded silk, glimmering in the mouth, and yet the finish is soaringly fresh and clean. Minty and startlingly bright. Stunning. (TC) Drinking range: 2023 - 2045 Rating: 18 Tamlyn Currin - www.JancisRobinson.com (Apr 2024)

This is a great introduction to Tokaji Aszu at the beginning of its (very long) ideal drinking window. Stunning nose of lemon curd, dried peach and candied pineapple. Rich and creamy with a touch of marzipan character, but more importantly bright acidity and fine tannins that makes this so invigorating. Spot-on balance through the very long and bright finish. A blend of 75% furmint, 15% zeta and 10% harslevelu. Sustainable. Drink or hold. Rating: 95 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Aug 2022)

Disznókő

The name Disznókő - the rock of the wild boar - was first recorded in 1413 and refers to a large rock sat atop a small hill overlooking the vineyards. Listed as a "first growth" as far back as 1732, this 150ha vineyard in the south west of the Tokaji region has long been regarded as one of the region's finest.

As with much of Tokaji, Disznókő's fortunes suffered under nationalisation during the Communist era. But, in 1992, it was purchased by AXA Millésimes (owners of Château Pichon Longueville and Quinta do Noval, amongst others) who have reinvigorated Disznókő and put in the love and investment required to return it to the top rank of Tokaji estates.
