Make this cigar-box-scented Beaumont from a good vintage your go-to Christmas claret. Its rollicking, almost 50-50, stylishly oaked mix of cabernet sauvignon and merlot is a classic, chunky crowd-pleaser. Jane MacQuitty, The Times (Dec 2019)

A classic, reliable medium-bodied claret that is drinking superbly now. It has notes of wild fruit, dried tobacco and oak, with enough acidity to refresh. Delightful for the festive season. Will Lyons, The Sunday Times (Dec 2019)
Tasted blind. This is plush, supple with a gourmand ripeness, with interesting soft-edged tobacco notes in the developing fruit. Not the last word in concentration, but nicely balanced and developing well - already a pleasure, it has several years left. Drinking range: 2019 - 2026 Rating: 89 L&S (Feb 2019)
The 2015 Beaumont feels quite sophisticated on the nose with wild strawberry and subtle pressed flower scents. The palate is medium-bodied with firm grip and fine tannin, plus plenty of classic tobacco-infused fruit on the finish. This is a superb wine from Beaumont. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting. Rating: 91 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jul 2019)
Château Beaumont
With its origins in 1824, Château Beaumont is a Cru Bourgeois estate in the Haut-Médoc on the left bank of the Garonne. The property has been owned by Société Grands Millésimes de France since 1986, owners of Château Beychevelle, the fourth growth Saint-Julien.
The 114 hectare estate is planted 53 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot to a vine density of 6,666 vines per hectare with an average age of 20 years for the vines. The vineyard is farmed on environmentally friendly principles, having used Terra Vitis and integrated farming techniques since 2004.
The harvested fruit is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats with three weeks of maceration. Soils are well-drained, deep and gravelly. With an average annual production of 600,000 bottles, the wines are matured in oak barrels (one-third new) for between 12 and 14 months, depending on the vintage. Their wines are characterized by their supple, silky and feminine structure. The tannins are generally mellow and rarely aggressive. All this contributes to making reliable, well-balanced wines full of charm and finesse, offering great value.
