The first time that Larmandier-Bernier has made this wine. 100% Pinot Noir from old vines in Vertus. Spontaneous vinification in old vats and casks, 11 months on lees. Tirage end of July 2016. Six years sur lattes. Dosage 0 g/l.
Baked sour cream, smoke and bay leaf. A powerful, bone-structured rigidity. Fennel and chalk dust and bitter rain and baobab. Pretty uncompromising. Tastes like a glacial waterfall. Maritime. No curves, no corners – a cliff face of a wine. Drinking range: 2023 - 2035 Rating: 17 + Tamlyn Currin - www.JancisRobinson.com (Jun 2023)

The first ever Blanc de Noirs from Larmandier made from pinot noir from Vertus, that in this vintage proved exceptional and therefore had to be made rather than being blended into the Rose. There is definite weight and concentration on the nose, cherry skin, wild strawberry, mocha and some floral back notes. In the mouth the wine is pure, layered red fruits, mocha and definite umami touches. An engaging and complex wine that evolves in the glass but made very much in the Larmandier style, completely delicious.L&S (May 2023)
Certified organic and biodynamic. 100% Pinot Noir from Ambonnay. Larmandier-Bernier's first Blanc de Noirs. Grippy and phenolic and chewy. It’s all pith and peel and tension. Last year I described it as a ‘cliff face of a wine’ and I'll stand by that. It’s spitting salt and lime peel and green nut skin. It’s more like a red wine in terms of structure. Pair with steak! Drinking range: 2024 - 2032 Rating: 17 Tamlyn Currin - www.JancisRobinson.com (May 2024)
Since the Larmandiers felt they had picked a touch too early to produce their emblematic rosé in the 2015 vintage, they elected instead to produce the 2015 Extra-Brut Blanc de Noirs, an attractively pillowy, racy, medium to full-bodied Champagne redolent of freshly baked bread, orchard fruit and buttery pastry. Concluding with a long, chalky finish, it represents a fine success. Drinking range: 2023 - 2033 Rating: 92 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Dec 2023)
Champagne Larmandier-Bernier
Pierre and Sophie Larmandier and their sons Arthur and now Georges too (joined September 2021) are determined to make wines as true as possible to their origins in their different vineyards. These are split into around fifty separate parcels spread across the Côte des Blancs in the grand cru villages of Cramant, Chouilly, Oger and Avize, and the premier cru of Vertus.
All but three of the parcels (representing 0.5 hectares) are farmed using non-officially certified biodynamic methods. Wines are made only from their own 15 hectares of vines, which are on average 33 years old. All of their Champagnes are the purest expressions of Chardonnay.
Working only with natural yeasts the influence of 'terroir' is all important to the style of his wines, so much so that he uses a minimum 'dosage' (if at all) so as not to mask the wines natural characteristics.
Pierre has recently changed the 'Tradition' cuvée, re-launching it as 'Latitude', and it is now also a Blanc de Blancs, with its origins in the vineyards south of Vertus. The old 'Blanc de Blancs cuvée, which is known henceforth as 'Longitude', comes exclusively from vineyards on the Cote de Blancs itself and is classified Premier Cru'.
The Pinot Noir is now reserved exclusively for Pierre's distinctive dark rosé and for the Vertus Rouge Coteaux Champenois.
Awarded the Robert Parker Green emblem in July 2021.
