Christophe says this is smoky, but not from the oak, it's in fact a graphite reduction in the soil - the result on the nose is just a lovely oriental wood-spice framing the red fruit. There is a trace of this frame on the palate too. Great fruit though, riper, more supple. Pure expression, but this has an extra element of generosity a sucrosity. No spare fat, just relatively ripe and full bore. Then focuses, comes together beautifully. Charming. Christophe says the samples are a little too chilly, muting the expressiveness - they are certainly showing a purity and a restraint. L&S (Oct 2017)

The 2016 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a slightly muffled bouquet that requires more clarity. Dark berry fruit, hints of leather and undergrowth. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, and although it is missing a little depth, it is driven by the fine bead of acidity and feels pert and fresh on the finish - very Charmes. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting. Drinking range: 2020 - 2030 Rating: 92 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Oct 2019)
Bright red purple, not so much nose at the outset. There is an exceptional density of fruit on the palate though, absolutely explosive in the way that really good Charmes-Chambertin can deliver, and a helpful trace of acidity. Rather impressive, with a fine long finish. Rating: ****95 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy (Sept 2019)
(13% alcohol after a touch of chaptalization): Healthy bright red. Fresh aromas and flavors of spices, flowers, red licorice and mint show a bit more mocha torrefaction and a bit less red fruitiness than most of the foregoing samples. Then a step up in flesh and sweetness in the mouth from the premier crus at this address; more voluminous and horizontal. Boasts terrific soil-driven minerality (these vines are situated very close to Chambertin) but not quite as complex today as the 2015 was at the same stage of its evolution. The rising finish features fine-grained tannins and savory, spicy length. Rating: 91-94 Stephen Tanzer, www.vinousmedia.com (Jan 2018)
Domaine Christophe Perrot-Minot
Christophe Perrot-Minot is now the fourth generation of his family producing wine on the estate after his great grandfather Amédée Merme devoted himself to the management and production of wine over 130 years ago. The estate has gone from strength to strength – always keeping the highest standards. Integrated viticulture has been practiced for many years now which has been adapted especially for the terroir. No herbicide or chemical fertilizer is used, instead, Christophe prefers to “stand back and listen to this terroir, only intervening when necessary or when the weather requires it, never systematically.” This is one of the star domaines of the whole of Burgundy.
