A flavorful, well-composed and agile red with plenty of tension. The nose shows notes of sweet cherries, potpourri and warm spices. It’s full-bodied with chewy tannins. Bright and vivid at the center, with a solid frame of tannins on the edge bringing a more serious expression on the palate. Dense and well-built, with a creamy core of red berries and spices in the finish. From organically grown grapes. Try from 2026. Rating: 93 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Jun 2024)

The 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Renaissance is towering. Blending 60% Grenache with 40% Mourvèdre, it showcases prominent orange rind, crushed violet, strawberry and melted licorice alongside herbal aromas. Full-bodied and concentrated, the 2022 hits the palate with absolutely no rough edges and culminates in a refined finale. This is a terrific Renaissance of outstanding purity and remarkable elegance. Drinking range: 2026 - 2038 Rating: 94 Nicholas Greinacher - Vinousmedia.com (Jun 2024)

60% Grenache, 40% Mourvèdre. Aged for 24 months in demi-muids (67%) and new oak barrels (33%). Certified organic. Cask sample. Tasted blind. Some raspberry and coconut notes on the nose. A sweet and jammy palate, with coconut, spice, oak and cinnamon coming through. Fine and elegant tannins pepper the palate and give structure to the layered and showy, hedonistic finish. (AC) 15% Drinking range: 2027 - 2039 Rating: 17 Alistair Cooper MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Nov 2023)

Domaine de Cristia

Based around Courthezon and taking the name from the lieu dit 'Cristia', Domaine de Cristia was established by Etienne Grangeon in the early 1950s with just two hectares of Grenache. His son Alain joined the domaine in the 1960s. It was Alain who slowly started to increase the vineyard holdings and plant Syrah & Mourvèdre to complement the Grenache that makes up the majority of the estate.

Today the estate is in the very capable hands of Etienne's grandchildren, Baptiste, Dominique and Florent, who joined in 1999. They have nearly 19 hectares based mainly in the sandy soils around Courthezon. All the vineyards have been certified since 2008, with a biodynamic approach also being followed.

The vineyards are mainly northeast facing so benefit from not getting too much hot sun during the early part of the day, with the sandy soils lending freshness and elegance that is the hallmark of their cuvées.
