Origin France, Bordeaux
Village Pessac-Léognan
Classification Cru Classé

Vibrant plum in colour, with juice, density and grip, another sign of how they are evolving the structure and architecture of this wine, giving it nuance without sacrificing the complexity. Cocoa bean, sweet berry, fruits, this is delicious. Drinking range: 2027 - 2028 Rating: 93 Jane Anson, www.janeanson.com (May 2024)

The 2023 Fieuzal reveals a bright, perfumed bouquet of mulberries and cherries mingled with floral accents of violets, lilac and spring flowers. Medium to full-bodied, layered and textural, it’s pure and seamless, with a fleshy core of fruit, bright acids and powdery, ultra-refined tannins, concluding with a mineral, penetrating finish. This blend of 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot stands out in this challenging vintage for gravelly, sandy terroirs. Under the adept guidance of Stephen Carrier, the estate—positioned on the border of the Pessac-Léognan appellation—has hit new heights in recent years. Drinking range: 2025 - 2055 Rating: 94-96 Yohan Castaing, www.robertparker.com (Apr 2024)

Very impressive freshness and focus here. Bright and succulent, al-dente fruit right upfront and continuing through the whole length of the wine. Notes of forest floor, sea shell and iodine. Medium body. It has bright acidity that adds tension and a lot of energy. Fine tannins, already beautifully integrated. Rating: 93-94 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Apr 2024)

Château de Fieuzal

Chateau de Fieuzal is named in honour of the family that owned it at the start of the nineteenth century. After that, the Bordeaux wine property was owned by the Griffon family. The Griffon’s, who were lucky to have connections to Pope Léon XIII in Bordeaux, were able to fill the Vatican’s cellars with their wines from Pessac Leognan. de Fieuzal was purchased by the Ricard family. The Ricard’s owned multiple Bordeaux wine estates including Domaine de Chevalier and Malartic-Lagravière. Today, Chateau de Fieuzal is owned by Lochlann Quinn, the chairman of Allied Irish Banks.

The Bordeaux wine vineyards are planted on sand and gravel soils. The 39 hectare vineyard is planted to red and white grape varietals. For the reds, 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 4.5% Cabernet Franc and 2.5% Petit Verdot. The white grapes are planted to 50% Sauvignon Blanc and 50% Semillon.
