Another beautiful wine from this perpetually improving property, the 2023 Château Mangot delivers aromas of blackberries and mulberries mingled with hints of licorice, pencil shavings, bay leaf and violets. Medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with a seamless, complete profile and impressive mid-palate density, it's a blend of 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon with élevage combining, as usual, new oak, used barriques, foudre and amphorae. The style emphasizes precision and purity of fruit without any obtrusive winemaking signatures. On a qualitative roll, Mangot is one of the best values in contemporary Bordeaux, and the 2023 vintage is another strong effort. Rating: 92-94 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Apr 2024)

Vibrant ruby in colour plenty of violet reflections, attractive En Primeur colour and aromatics, with estate signature. Pretty fresh acidities, a little overly sharp, but there is plenty of raspberry and redcurrant fruit to counterbalance, and the whole thing feels full of life and tension. Todeschini family, Thomas Duclos consultant. 34ha, 25% new oak for ageing. Drinking range: 2029 - 2042 Rating: 93 Jane Anson, www.janeanson.com (May 2024)
The blend of Mangot is 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, vinified with a cold soak for eight days, after which there was a slightly shorter post-fermentation maceration. A very pure and expressive nose, but evidently dry and savoury, with notes of blackberry and damson, laced with liquorice, tar, slate and dark chocolate. The palate follows with a gently creamed texture, rich with notes of slate, chocolate and blackberry, with deliciously savoury substance, plenty of juicy texture, a saline minerality and spice supporting the fruit. This is an another impressive sample from the Todeschini family, with a sappy grip which persists in the finish. The élevage will be in a mix of barrels (new and used), foudres and amphorae. The alcohol is around 14.5%, although probably slightly lower than that on analysis. Rating: 92-94 Chris Kissack, www.thewinedoctor.com (Apr 2024)
The density of fruit grabs your attention, showing fullness and richness with blue fruit and a hazelnut undertone. Chewy at the end of the polished and solid palate. Structured young wine. Rating: 92-93 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Apr 2024)
Château Mangot
A single block of 37 hectares of vines on limestone clay soils run by the Todeschini family. The vineyard is planted with 75% Merlot, although this is tending to give way to Cabernet Franc in new plantings. 5% Cabernet Sauvignon completes the mix. Farming is organic, and the estate was awarded the Robert Parker 'Green Emblem' in 2023.
Élevage is in a mix of barrels, foudres and amphorae.
