KUMEU RIVER 'ESTATE'

2023 Chardonnay

IN STOCK
Grapes Chardonnay
Colour White
Origin New Zealand, North Island
ABV 12.5%

The 2020 Chardonnay Estate offers purity, balance and restraint. Everything is proportionate here, with just the right amount of concentrated flesh on the mid-palate and a lovely momentum through the wine, thanks to the line of acidity that courses through it and provides direction and length. Enjoy now or over the coming ten years. Drinking range: 2024 - 2034 Rating: 91 Rebecca Gibb MW - Vinous.com (Sept 2024)

*Case price discount: Mix any 12 bottles of wine (or 9 litre equivalent) or 6 bottles of Champagne, Spirits, Sweet Wine or Fortified (4.5 litres) to get the discounted 'case price' for each bottle.

100% barrel fermentation (5+ year old+ French oak Barriques), 16% tank fermentation: 12.5% alc. Drawn from fruit from six different sites in the Kumeu region and using a high proportion of one and two-year-old oak barrels, this is the real deal, and it sings of the time-honoured Kumeu River style. Forward drinking and less fleshy than 2022, this is a superb, clean, racy wine, and it will certainly run for a good three or four years. This is a super wine that is light, airy and teasingly refreshing. Rating: 17.5/20 Matthew Jukes www.matthewjukes.com (Sept 2024)

This is fresh, crunchy and clean, with mineral and spice notes and plenty of salty undertones. Sliced lemons and apples. Medium-bodied with a fresh finish. Drink now. Screw cap. Rating: 93 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Aug 2024)

Compared to the Village chardonnay, there's a touch of extra concentration here. Barely ripe white nectarine, a little guava and red apple alongside the merest hint of flint. There is a strong spine of acid, but this provides structure for the fruit. A faint note of creamy malo adds another layer. Drinking range: 2024 - 2028 Rating: *** 91 James Halliday - winecompanion.com.au (May 2024)

Kumeu River

From the pioneering days to the establishment of the New Zealand wine industry to today, the Brajkovich family have been internationally recognised as producing world class wine. The Brajkovich family continue to harvest their grapes at Kumeu and refine their wine making skills.

The Brajkovichs are nationally recognised as a founding family of the New Zealand wine industry, and the current generation are internationally recognised as producing world class Chardonnay.

Just as the Brajkovich family has grown, so too has the winery itself. Extensions and additions mark the milestones that have seen business adapt and expand over the years. Today, the winery produces around 250,000 bottles annually from 30 hectares of its own vineyards in Kumeu, and another 10 hectares from local growers.
