Vineyard Mazis Chambertin

This is more serious, along with the Cazetiers, the Mazis-Chambertin has the hoped for density. An attractive raspberry fruit lifts the bouquet, and is both sensual and sinewy on the palate. While it has not fully eaten its oak yet, this Mazis is surely heading in the right direction. A fine result. Drinking range: 2032 - 2043 Rating: **** Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy (Nov 2024)

Cask sample. Mid garnet colour. Pale rim. Toasty biscuit nose that is quite unlike its stablemates. Very sweet, oaky start. Almost too embryonic to judge. (JR) Drinking range: 2030 - 2050 Rating: 16.5+ Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Nov 2024)

More oak here on the nose which follows to the palate. Slightly dominates. But the fruit is good and rather sophisticated, just not rich and open. Brooding for now. This drives along with intent - but is hard to read for now.L&S (Nov 2024)

Exotic and wild on the nose, this shows a hint of smokiness along with spice mix and black plum pudding. Frank and a bit four-square in structure, this easily needs six or more years to come together. The minerally, earthy veneer on the finish leaves an indelible impression. While there are some vines from the '40s and '50s here, many of them are being pulled out now. Rating: 96 Tim Atkin MW, www.timatkin.com (Jan 2025)
