Tasting this dark garnet-coloured wine, the quality of the Les Saint-Georges terroir is immediately evident. There is an abundance of purple and black fruit aromas with an earthy, gamey edge and a strong mineral underpinning. The texture is tannic and very dense but retains elegance in the impressively lingering finish. The grapes here are from a parcel of just under a quarter hectare initially planted in 1942. This wine should open in five to seven years and drink over the next 30. Drinking range: 2030 - 2060 Rating: 96 Charles Curtis MW, Decanter.com (Oct 2024)

This was the last wine we tasted with the Chicotots and boy did it pack a punch. It's more powerful than the Vaucrains and again it needs time for everything to settle down but there is plenty to like. The fruit profile (dark) is lovely. Very ripe. Lots of sweet spice too. You can see why there is talk of Les Saint Georges being upgraded to Grand Cru level. Will be interesting to see how this develops over the next decade. Lots of potential.L&S (Dec 2024)

A bit of reduction which Clément notes is habitual in his Les St-Georges. Black purple. Definitely a touch stinky at this early stage. A vast volume of fruit, the difference here compared to the preceding wines would indeed support the Grand Cru proposition. It does need to lose the reduction but this is going to be superb. Domaine Chicotot

A 7 hectare domaine in Nuits Saint Georges currently run by Pascale and Clément Chicotot, who describe themselves as 'vignerons...simplement'. They say that only natural methods have been used for several generations and the domaine is certified organic.

The various vineyards consist of nearly two and a half hectares of Bourgogne Côte d’Or Pinot Noir, and two plots in the Côte de Beaune:

Vinification is traditional, the fermentation beginning after 5 to 6 days of cold maceration and lasting around 15 days, with remontage or pigeage as necessary and aged in barrel with a maximum of 25% new wood. SO2 levels are very low. The wines are well-coloured and well-defined and expressive - lots of personality here, with the village wines (which are all on the Vosne side of Nuits) near 1er Cru quality.

The picture shows Clément and Pascale with the graphic design they've used as the label for the old-vine cuvée 'Papillon de Nuys'.
