Zingy on the nose and palate, this shows crushed shells, white pepper spice, toasted wheat bread and yellow apples. Long and caressing with crackling acidity and an appealing dryness on the finish, this is a serious wine. Rating: 94 Tim Atkin MW, www.timatkin.com (Jan 2025)

The 2023 Puligny-Montrachet Champ-Gain 1er Cru has a pretty bouquet with yellow plum and light chamomile scents. I'm just seeking more mineralité and terroir expression here. The palate is well balanced with modest depth and fine acidity, although, again, I feel the season just denuded a little tension and terroir on the finish. Domaine Faiveley

The Faiveley family are the largest vineyard owners in Burgundy, owning around 120ha, spread across the Côte de Nuits, Beaune and Chalonnaise and encompassing everything from generic Bourgogne up to the grandest of Grand Crus. Their holdings supply the grapes for 5 out of every 6 bottles made by Faiveley, the balance being bought in from carefully selected contract growers.
