Fresh as can be from the barrel and full of Sanlucar sunshine - this fine Manzanilla En Rama is brilliant sherry. Direct from the cask, and sent to the UK as quickly as possible. This latest release of La Gitana is striking for its brightness in both colour and flavour. Paler than the Tio Pepe this year, on the palate this is very fresh, there is a rainwater like feel to the texture - so pure and enchanting saline notes satisfy the thirst yet keep you coming back for more. Wonderfully savoury and but not quite as potent this year in contrast to the Tio Pepe release there is a tangy citrus hit and tart apple notes leading to the salty, nutty finish, this is a great example of what 'En Rama' Manzanilla should be. Sea salt and ocean breezes... freshly bottled, natural and straight from the cask. Manzanilla En Rama is sherry at its very best – lightly filtered, unfined, pure free run juice directly from the barrel! Produced from 100% Palomino grapes grown on white albariza soils at Hidalgo’s highest quality vineyards of El Cuadrado at Balbaina Alta. This Spring 2023 release is available in limited quantities (only 35 barrels with a capacity of 1,000 litres of the solera are used). Tasting note: Intense, complex and balanced on the nose, this En Rama has a wonderful salty character influenced by the close proximity of the cellars in Sanlúcar de Barrameda to the sea (only 500m away) as well as the altitude of the Balbaina vineyard (100m). Matured using the traditional “Criaderas y Solera” process in American oak casks, under a layer of “flor” integrated by the yeasts, the wine is intensely gold with green tints. At 15% alcohol, it is perfect served as an aperitif with salted nuts, olives and jamon or with fish, seafood, asparagus or artichokes.
