Taittinger always prepares its Brut Réserve blend first, and only if the vintage is deemed of sufficient quality are its other cuvées assembled. This philosophy, together with a generous inclusion of reserves and long lees age, has produced another impressively poised rendition.
The poise and precision of Brut Réserve are on point, celebrating the chardonnay ambition of the house in a pristine, pale straw hue and beautifully defined white peach and lemon fruit. Fresher, more lively and more primary than ever, lees age has but subtly drawn out nuances of brioche, spice and roast almonds. Fine acidity and gentle chalk minerality are well integrated with balanced dosage on a friendly finish of gentle integrity and amicable allure.
Tasted in 2023 Rating: 92 Tyson Stelzer - The Champagne Guide (Jul 2024)
40 % Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 25% Pinot. Regional blend. Base vintage unknown – current release as of November 2022. Clean, with some lime and cream notes and a gentle fresh nut weight, zesty and slightly pithy with solid balance and refreshment value. A nice shot of the slightly savoury reductive character that Taittinger injects into its cuvées, even at the entry level. Tom Hewson Rating: 90 Tim Atkin MW, www.timatkin.com (Dec 2022)
Tasted blind. Overall score placed it fourth out of 12 wines. Light straw. Sweetish nose – one of the few! Candied violets on the nose. Light and off dry. Quite chunky, lime-marmalade impression. Not much undertow. Good texture and refreshment value on the finish. A little chew on the end. Lots of acidity underneath. Drinking range: 2015 - 2018 Rating: 16 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Sept 2015)
