Terriccio's top wine. A classic Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, aged eighteen months in new 'barriques', this is treated very much like a top Bordeaux but somehow retains all the character of Terriccio, which makes it so unique. The 2006 is beginning to open up now, with an array of darkly spicy fruit and refined, polished wood aromas. Deep and sensuously mouth-coating it is still firm though and will benefit from decanting and food (game?) to show its full effect. L&S (May 2011)

Beautiful aromas of ripe berries, dark chocolate, flowers, spices and sandalwood. Develops wonderfully. Full-bodied, with polished, refined tannins and a very long finish. Tight and racy now. The 2006 Lupicaia is a highly promising effort. A mélange of black fruit, leather, licorice, tar, cassis and minerals sits on a massive, brooding frame. Sage, rosemary and violets develop in the glass, adding further complexity. The Lupicaia reveals gorgeous depth and striking purity in its fruit. As is often the case, it is painfully young at this stage, but all that is required is a few more years in bottle. Castello del Terriccio
The Castello del Terriccio is beautifully positioned around twenty-five kilometres north of Bolgheri, with commanding views towards Corsica. The 60 hectares of vines enjoy wonderful exposure, overlooking the sea, benefitting from its brightness and cooling breezes. The vineyards are surrounded by 'maquis' and eucalyptus trees, which as well as protecting them, also contribute to the aromas and scents that so characterise the Terriccio wines.
Planted predominately with Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Syrah, the wines are made by consultant oenologist Carlo Ferrini, who has to date brought thirteen 'Tre Bicchiere' awards to the estate.
These are wines that can be approached almost immediately and yet age so well over a decade and more.
The estate continues in the hands of Vittorio Piozzo di Rosignano Rossi di Medelana who took over after the extraordinarily charming Cav. Gian Annibale Rossi di Medelana Serafini Ferri (or 'Pucci' as he was fondly known) who died at the end of 2019.
