A dense, generous and fruity red from old vines. It shows notes of dark cherries, baked plums, sweet spices and some grilled meat. It’s full-bodied with fine, firm tannins. Structured yet elegant, with a delicious and succulent core of cherries and blood oranges on the palate. Lively and concise, with a focused and flavorful finish. From organically grown grapes. Try after 2025. Rating: 93 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Jun 2024)

Coming in at eye level with the Renaissance from the same vintage, the 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes is gorgeous. White pepper, strawberry jam, cedar, licorice, crushed violets and menthol are all front and center. Framed by ripe and seamlessly sculpted tannins as well as bright acidity, the ambitious 2022 impresses with great persistence on the complex finish. It spent 18 months in equal proportions of demi-muids and both old and new oak barriques. Drinking range: 2027 - 2039 Rating: 94 Nicholas Greinacher - Vinousmedia.com (Jun 2024)

100% Grenache. Aged for 18 months in demi-muids (33%) and new (34%) and old (33%) oak barrels. Cask sample. Tasted blind. A heady nose, with bacon fat, meat and red fruits. A sweet attack with leather, balsamic and gravel. Very firm tannins and a sweet cola note on the rich mid palate. Oak is pretty forward here and needs to integrate. (AC) 15% Drinking range: 2027 - 2038 Rating: 16 Alistair Cooper MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Nov 2023)

Domaine de Cristia

Based around Courthezon and taking the name from the lieu dit 'Cristia', Domaine de Cristia was established by Etienne Grangeon in the early 1950s with just two hectares of Grenache. His son Alain joined the domaine in the 1960s. It was Alain who slowly started to increase the vineyard holdings and plant Syrah & Mourvèdre to complement the Grenache that makes up the majority of the estate.

Today the estate is in the very capable hands of Etienne's grandchildren, Baptiste, Dominique and Florent, who joined in 1999. They have nearly 19 hectares based mainly in the sandy soils around Courthezon. All the vineyards have been certified since 2008, with a biodynamic approach also being followed.

The vineyards are mainly northeast facing so benefit from not getting too much hot sun during the early part of the day, with the sandy soils lending freshness and elegance that is the hallmark of their cuvées.
