60% Grenache, 40% Syrah. 100% destemmed, each variety is fermented separately in concrete tank. Aged in 600- and 400-litre amphorae for 9 months. Tasted blind. A little earthy and meaty on the nose. Lots of acidity and very firm tannins that dominate. Rich and a wild animal note to the fruit, tannins are slightly angular and need to integrate. (AC) 15% Drinking range: 2024 - 2028 Rating: 15.5 Alistair Cooper MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Dec 2023)

Silky, velvety blackberry fruit that’s smooth on the palate, no blockages in ripening here it would seem, clearly some clay terroir. Deep and resonant, this has great length and clarity of terroir expression. Great harmony and balance. Matured in 400-litre and 600-litre amphora for nine months before release. Drinking range: 2024 - 2029 Rating: 93 Matt Walls, Decanter.com (Nov 2023)

Plenty of red and black fruits, savory garrigue, cured meats, and violet, peppery notes emerge from the 2022 Rasteau Argilla Ad Argillam, a medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated Rasteau that has good mid-palate density, fine tannins, and a great finish. Rating: 90+ Jeb Dunnuck, www.jebdunnuck.com (Nov 2023)

Domaine des Escaravailles

Domaines des Escaravailles was established in 1953 by Jean-Louis Ferran and his two sons, Daniel and Jean-Pierre, in the village of Rasteau.

Today it is run by the third generation of the family, Gilles, the son of Daniel. With vineyards on not only the clay, limestone hillsides of Rasteau, but also in Cairanne, Roaix, Villedieu and St Roman de Malegarde. The estate is run organically and everything is done by hand with the wines made in the cellars in the heart of the property in Rasteau.

The estate takes it's name from the Occitan word for the Scarab Beetle, which you will also find adorning the labels of the wines.
