Beaux Bruns translates to the 'Beautiful Browns' and refers to the clay here. (Not heavy clay though) Here in Chambolle the clay is generally chalky in texture and light as long as you are not too low and you are near to the village. The 2023 from Thibault is very delicious. Round with a ripe-fruited core of smashed summer berries and crushed plums. But satisfyingly glossy too. Just ripe enough but pretty too - lovely balance. There is ample clay here toward the bottom of the slope, translating to juicy fruit breadth on the palate. Dried roses, red cherries and turned earth spread across the palate. Three barrels made, vinified with 30% whole bunches in a small wooden vat. Made in exactly the same way as Fouchères, but Beaux Bruns is more in raspberry mode, and slightly denser, there being more clay in the soil here. Certainly there is greater intensity on the palate, and with a good follow through at the finish, so in some ways more impressive but I like the ethereal Fouchères just about as much. The lack of the word 'domaine' in the name signals that this is a négociant wine from Thibault Liger-Belair. On the whole Thibault buys grapes having tended the vines with his own team, so that the wines are domaine wines in all but name.
