(from Les Gamaires, Les Fremières and Derrière le Four). A high-toned, airy and pretty nose is comprised by the essence of red cherry and spice trimmed in enough wood to notice. The succulent, round and equally generously proportioned flavors exude a subtle bead of minerality on the lightly austere, balanced and solidly long finale. The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Vieille Vignes comes from three lieux-dits (it used to be five but they lost two parcels last year). Including 30% whole clusters, there is a sense of strictness on the nose as light sous-bois scents come through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied and nicely poised with pliant tannins, a keen thread of acidity and insistent grip toward the finish. Drink over the next decade. Made from three plots this year, Derriere Le Four, Fremières, Gamets. A lighter garnet to ruby colour, yet with a beguiling violet laden Chambolle nose. Good tension thanks also to adequate acidity, far from a blockbuster, indeed a Chambolle on the lighter side with some elegance. The lack of the word 'domaine' in the name signals that this is a négociant wine from Thibault Liger-Belair. On the whole Thibault buys grapes having tended the vines with his own team, so that the wines are domaine wines in all but name.
