Pale, bright, green-tinged yellow. Inviting aromas of stone fruits, lime blossom and white flowers. Supple, fresh and concentrated, with ripe acidity framing the floral and stone fruit flavors. Finishes saline and dry, with a slight acid bite. This is 13.3% natural alcohol. Rating: 88 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (Sept 2014)
(from a .33 ha parcel aged in 20% new oak) A restrained and cool nose offers up notes of pear, citrus, hazelnut and soft floral hints. The equally cool and agreeably pure middle weight flavors possess good punch on the delicious, clean and attractively dry finish that delivers good if not truly special depth and length. 2016+ Rating: 87-89 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jun 2014)
Pale, bright yellow-green. Aromas of ripe apple, pear, peach and hazelnut. Rich and ripe on entry, then juicy and firm-edged in the middle, with flavors of underripe pineapple and fresh herbs accented by pepper and crushed stone. The peppery quality carries through on the finish. Rating: 87-89 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (Mar 2014)
Some ripe more mandarin aromas. Bright ripe grapefruit flavours and tropical fruit. Plenty of richness and lots of acidity on the finish. Punchy. Good balance. Quite of lot of oak. It is rich, forward, full and glossy. Good. From 2015Sarah Marsh MW, The Burgundy Briefing (Feb 2014)
Rating: 92 Tim Atkin MW, www.timatkin.com (Jan 2014)
The 2012 Meursault Sous la Velle comes from three small parcels. It has a very fragrant bouquet with scents of light honeysuckle, white peach and dried apricot that displays good intensity. The palate is well balanced with a crisp taut entry, vibrant lemony fruit and a conservative finish that springs a pleasant note of dried mango on the aftertaste. Fine Rating: 88-90 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2014)
Domaine Rémi Jobard
Rémi has been making small qualitative changes ever since he took over here in 1996. The entire vineyard is cordon-pruned, so yields are naturally limited. There has been no use of fertiliser since 1994, and the vineyard is grassed-over to encourage the vine roots to go deep. The domaine has been certified organic from 2008. He says that the two most important things are the absence of weedkiller (and thus the necessity to plough, which cuts any surface roots and makes the vine go deeper) and not adding any fertiliser which again makes the roots go deeper to find nutrients.
Rémi has two vast presses, to enable him to press very slowly over six hours, and this has resulted in a big jump in finesse. The élevage now lasts nearly fifteen months, so as to allow the wines to develop slowly and to avoid fining. As a result these are wines which take a moment to show, but which reward the patient with complexity and great depth of flavour.
Rémi made a move from traditional barrels to foudres made of a mix of French, Austrian and Slavonian oak, constructed by Austrian cooper Stockinger, and having added a new one (or two) each year, there's barely a normal barrel left. He likes the way the wines develop in these large volumes, in which the 'oaking' effect is minimised.
Please note that certain wines are on very tight allocations and will first be offered to customers who buy across the range.
