The 2014 Tronquoy-Lalande has a more elegant, refined bouquet compared to its peers, a mixture of red and black fruit, cedar, iodine and violets, perhaps picked a little later? The palate is medium-bodied with a ferrous opening, and the tannins are a bit drier than I would have liked, though the overly spicy and persistent finish is complex. It will be intriguing to see how this ages further in bottle. This is a very positive showing for one of the most under-rated estates in Saint-Estèphe. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting. Drinking range: 2019 - 2032 Rating: 92+ Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Feb 2024)

Tasted blind. Deep garnet core. Masses of pure vibrant cassis, youthful if not primary. A touch minty/leafy. Finely textured, almost chalky tannins. Fresh and refined in texture with equally refined fruit for harmony. GV Drinking range: 2027 - 2035 Rating: 17 Julia Harding MW, www.JancisRobinson.com (Feb 2024)

Deep ruby in colour, very much holding its intensity at 8 years old. This is classic St Estèphe, there is punch and depth to the black fruits, acidities are fresher than you would find in neighbour appellations such as Pauillac, with everything well held together, cassis, blackberry, lashings of black pepper and cocoa bean spice, open and ready to drink but still with structure and life ahead. Enjoyable, classic, a little old school but thoroughly charming with appellation character. Harvest September 18 to October 11. Drinking range: 2022 - 2034 Rating: 92 Jane Anson, Decanter (Oct 2022)

The 2014 Tronquoy-Lalande has a very composed bouquet with blackberry, tar and tobacco, very well defined and developing more red fruit than black with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin that render this quite masculine in style. Yes, for certain it is quite austere but I admire the balance of this wine and it offers good substance on the finish. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting. Drinking range: 2026 - 2035 Rating: 90 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Mar 2018)

Christmas Red Bordeaux Mixed Case

From the joyous pure Merlot of Château Montaiguillon through to the supple finesse of the Château Tour du Moulin, there is plenty to get your teeth into. They would provide great accompaniment to everything from honey roast ham to fore-rib of beef.
