From a 13-hectare vineyard located north and west of the village of Saint-Emilion, the 2016 Château Corbin (83% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc aged in 50% new oak) showed beautifully in all my tastings. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by a beautifully pure, elegant 2016 that gives up lots of limestone character in its red currants, graphite, dried flowers, and earthy aromas and flavors. This medium to full-bodied effort has solid mid-palate depth, a fine, elegant texture, ample structure, and a great finish. It's going to benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age and cruise for 15+ years. Drinking range: 2021 - 2036 Rating: 93 Jeb Dunnuck, www.jebdunnuck.com (Feb 2019)

The 2016 Corbin is a gorgeous, supple Saint-Émilion that will drink well with minimal cellaring. Floral notes add brightness and energy to a core of red cherry and plum fruit. Hints of chocolate, leather and menthol shape the persistent, substantial finish. A racy wine with no hard edges and tons of pure harmony, the 2016 is simply impeccable today. Tasted two times. Drinking range: 2018 - 2028 Rating: 93 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Jan 2019)
The 2016 Corbin, matured in 50% new oak, has a ravishing bouquet of red plum, bergamot and touches of peppermint. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannin and good backbone. Not complex, but fresh and well balanced, leading to a lightly spiced finish. Perhaps the insider’s choice on the Right Bank? Drinking range: 2021 - 2035 Rating: 93 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2019)
The 2016 Corbin is a blend of 89% Merlot and 11% Cabernet Franc picked between 5-22 October at 48 hectoliters per hectare and matured in 45% new oak. It has an attractive bouquet, well defined black cherries, briary and undergrowth scents, real character here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin threaded through layers of crisp, slightly toasty fruit and a dash of spice towards the focused finish. This is an excellent Saint Emilion that should be "singing" once in bottle. Drinking range: 2022 - 2045 Rating: 92-94 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Apr 2017)
Château Corbin
Château Corbin is a property with a very long history. as it was reputedly part of a stronghold of the Black Prince in the fifteenth century. The current château was built in the ninteenth century. The vineyard is small - a single plot of about 13 hectares on the edge of the Pomerol and Saint Emlilion boundary. There are two distinct soil types - sandy soil over a base of 'crasse de fer' or ferruginous clay (the soil that is famous in Pomerol) and the classic clay of the Saint Emilion plateau which give the underlying power. It is planted with 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Annabelle Cruse-Bardinet is the fourth generation of the Cruse family, who bought this ancient property in 1924. A graduate in oenology from Bordeaux University, she is no mere figurehead (even though she makes a very elegant one). With the help of consultant Jean-Philippe Fort she is making better and better wines. The 2009 was already elegantly eye-catching in what can be a rather loud parade in Saint Emilion, and the 2010 is as defined as Chanel but somehow as relaxed as a country weekend. This is control by absence of intervention, picking ripe grapes, selecting the best plots, ageing in barrel for between 16 and 18 months. The result is a wine with an unstressed, natural feel, and a frank and open balance.
THE LUXURY CHRISTMAS MIXED CASE
Here's everything that you need to see you through several days of festivities, in quite some style. Grand Cru Classé Bordeaux, Top Flight Burgundy, Vintage Grand Cru Champagne, Old Vine Barolo and Vintage Port are just a few of the treasures contained in this superlative dozen.
⭐Will you find our 'Golden Ticket'?⭐
What's more, every case purchased is a chance to find the 'Golden Ticket'. Rather than a tour of our wine storage facilities, Charles Lea's golden ticket is much more exciting: a bottle of 2011 Alzero from the revered Quintarelli.
This £300 bottle of wine is utterly unique. Made by Quintarelli, who make some of the most sought after wine in Veneto, it is a blend of Bordeaux grapes – Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, but made in the Ripasso method, made famous by Amarone, in which grapes are dried on straw matts prior to fermentation. The result is something incredibly silky, rich and hedonistic which will be a wonderful centrepiece for any festive feast.
There are just 10 of these Golden Ticket cases available, so a tantalisingly high chance of winning this special bottle.
