BIENVENUES BÂTARD MONTRACHET
2021 Grand Cru Domaine Faiveley
The 2021 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has such an expressive and vivacious nose that positively leaps out of the glass. In fact, if you just imagine a neon plus sign, that probably expresses the aromatics better than anything else. Happy at its survival after the frost? The palate is very well balanced with grace and poise, Williams pear mixed with white peach, tensile on the citric finish. Excellent. The nose here leads you straight down a mineral loaded path with crushed limestone and the faintest waft of lime zest and some white flowers too. On the palate this is exhilarating. Tight lines and huge energy - pent up for now and loaded with juicy freshness. The texture is sleek and broad but certainly no real weight or richness. This finishes with a feint scraping of mineral dust. The 2021 Bienvenues Bâtard Montrachet is very youthful, and yet completely captivating and seems well loaded for a bright future.L&S (Nov 2022)
Cask sample. Creamy nose with edgy, green-fruited acidity on the palate. Too young to judge really. There certainly isn’t much sign of any Bâtard richness! I'll take a punt at how it will turn out… Drinking range: 2027 - 2040 Rating: 17 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Nov 2022)
Here too moderate wood is present on the aromas of honeysuckle, lemon confit and a vague hint of the exotic. The rich, dense and larger-bodied flavors possess a highly seductive mouthfeel that contrasts noticeably with the youthfully austere and intensely citrus-inflected finish that is presently a bit short. I suspect that once this is bottled that it will better harmonize as it’s somewhat awkward today. Drinking range: 2027 - Rating: 90-93 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jun 2023)

Pale lemon colour, this also is quite discreet though there’s a bit more to it. Lovely racy backbone to this with energy and length. Medium bodied for a grand cru but definitely has the finesse we look for in Bienvenues. Rating: **** Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy (Nov 2022)
Nearly 40 hl/ha after successful protection and late pruning, but that put them more at oidium risk. A plumper bouquet, pears to the fore, a light touch from the barrel. Then a burst of deeper flavour behind. Still extremely backward but the intensity is there Drinking range: 2028 - 2034 Rating: **** 93-95 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy (Nov 2022)
Domaine Faiveley
The Faiveley family are the largest vineyard owners in Burgundy, owning around 120ha, spread across the Côtes de Nuits, Beaune and Chalonnaise and encompassing everything from generic Bourgogne up to the grandest of Grand Crus. Their holdings supply the grapes for 5 out of every 6 bottles made by Faiveley, the balance being bought in from carefully selected contract growers.
