CLOS DE VOUGEOT
2021 Grand Cru Domaine Faiveley
Cask sample. Certainly not a blockbuster. But surprisingly sweet and pretty already. Well contained, with grand cru concentration evident underneath the palate. Really rather dangerously delicious already. Drinking range: 2027 - 2042 Rating: 18 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Nov 2022)

This follows neatly from the Gevrey Chambertins in the tasting - there is some brawn and power up front - but quickly the polished and neatly ripe fruit dominates the palate. Sweet plum flesh and some cherry notes are just checked by the line of mineral undertow pushing through to the finish. The pure lines in the middle are very charming and accessible for a Grand Cru at this stage. This is no heavy-weight.L&S (Nov 2022)
There's an openness to this red, from its enticing cherry, strawberry, spice and sun-kissed vegetal aromas and flavors to its bright acidity and light-weight, dusty tannins. Balanced and persistent, with a deft use of oak and a spice-tinged aftertaste. Best from 2026 through 2042. Drinking range: 2026 - 2042 Rating: 94 Bruce Sanderson, The Wine Spectator (Aug 2023)
Jérôme Flous vinified the domaine's three parcels together due to the small quantities. In 2022, he had a separate cuvée for each parcel. Impressively spicy on the nose, robust blackberry fruit takes center stage on the palate. The tannins give this distinguished grip that pull the flavors into a long finish. Drinking range: 2023 - Rating: 95 *** Christy Canterbury MW - TimAtkin.com (Feb 2023)
(blended from 3 separate lieux-dits, two near the bottom and one near the top). An unusually perfumed nose in the context of what is typical for young Clos Vougeot is comprised by airy red fruit and possesses less earth character than usual. The delicious middleweight flavors are not especially dense but they are both attractively textured and vibrant, all wrapped in a clean, sneaky long and youthfully austere finale. This too will need to develop more depth to merit the upper end of my projected range. Drinking range: 2029 - Rating: 89-92 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2023)
The 2021 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru comes from plots at the top and bottom of the famous climat, though those located at the bottom tend to accumulate water in a wet vintage. Consequently, the nose is pleasant but light with airy red berry fruit that lack the complexity of the previous vintage. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, a bit lean on the entry that never quite recovers, just deprived of the substance by the malevolent growing season. Drinking range: 2024 - 2034 Rating: 88-90 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2023)
A dense purple but not black. Deep dark fruit also on the palate, firm tannins, even a little youthful bitterness, which helps to tame the fact that the alcohol is a little bit higher here. Nothing dried out, this is just a Clos Vougeot on a relatively large scale. Rating: **** Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy (Nov 2022)
Pale but pretty colour. Light fruit on the nose. Spared from the frost, and as is typical of such cuvees in 2021, the wine feels more complete – in fact, displaying a particularly long finish. This avoids also the blocky side of Clos Vougeot, showing instead a rather fine fresh but light strawberry fruit. One could almost suggest that it is ethereal for this appellation!
