(from a .93 ha parcel). Like the Ech, a hint of green tea sits atop the earthier and less spicy aromas of various dark berries. The quite supple medium weight flavors possess a relatively refined mid-palate mouthfeel that contrasts somewhat with the moderately austere, powerful and solidly complex finish that tightens up noticeably as it sits on the palate. Good expression on the nose here, deep wild berry fruit, silky attack, fresh and pure than a bit of power and some firmer texture - all full of flavour - showing really nicely. Drinking range: 2028 - 2040L&S (Oct 2022)

The 2021 Clos de Vougeot le Grand Maupertui Grand Cru has an earthier bouquet with touches of wild mint percolating through the transparent red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded tannins, velvety smooth, moderate depth though not a complex finish. Yet it is surfeit with charm and like the Echézeaux, will not need an enormous amount of cellaring. Drinking range: 2025 - 2040 Rating: 91-93 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2023)

They are allowed 11.5 barrels, aim to make 9 and in 2021 managed a reasonable 7 of which three new. The bouquet is not yet ready to give up detail, though one senses a significant volume behind. And indeed, here it comes on the palate, a fine plump raspberry fruit with balanced acidity and tannin. Never the deepest Richebourg but perhaps among the most elegant Drinking range: 2028 - 2038 Rating: *** 93-96 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy  (Nov 2022)

Domaine Anne Gros

Anne Gros joined her father François at the family domaine in Vosne Romanée in 1988, having given up her arts studies in favour of viticulture and oenology at Beaune and Dijon, and has run the domaine alone since 1995. The Domaine now has 6.5 hectares of Pinot and Chardonnay. Anne describes herself as being 'wary of certainties and keen to preserve her freedom'.

In the vineyards Anne practises viticulture influenced by organic and biodynamic principles, and the vineyards are ploughed and fertilised with compost, but although she believes that the long-term health of the vineyards are best preserved by such methods, she likes to maintain the freedom to use conventional treatments when necessary.

In the cellar, the wines are classically made, in cement tanks for the reds, and stainless steel for the whites. They are then are aged in barrel for up to fifteen months, with 80% new wood for the grand crus, 50% for the village wines and 30% for the regional wines. Anne is quietly meticulous and almost obsessive about cleanliness in her cellar, which perhaps is reflected in the delicacy and restrained tension in her wines, which have aromatic clarity, limpid precision, sheer joie de vivre, lively balance and persistence.
