ÉCHEZEAUX
2021 Les Loachausses Grand Cru Domaine Anne Gros
Like many of these wines, it's hard to coax much of a nose out of this - they were racked too recently. The palate is firmly-textured - they have made such strides with this wine since it first came to them and again it has a great shape which puts it firmly in the style of the other wines. Almost peppery freshness to the finish. Drinking range: 2028 - 2040L&S (Oct 2022)

(from a .76 ha parcel, which is about 30% of the total climat). Here too there is a hint of green tea to the similar nose of spiced plum, dark pinot and violet scents. The sleek, beautifully detailed and vibrant flavors possess more volume even if they’re not especially dense, all wrapped in an attractively textured, lingering and nicely complex finale. This is quite good in its understated fashion Drinking range: 2029 - Rating: 90-93 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2023)
The 2021 Echézeaux Les Loachausses Grand Cru is understated and well-defined on the nose: brambly red fruit and crushed stone, touches of pressed flower. Again, this has a transparence that I admire. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, elegant and poised, gently building towards a cohesive, harmonious finish. Nicely poised and whilst not built for long-term ageing, it will dish out mid-term pleasure. Drinking range: 2024 - 2039 Rating: 90-92 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2023)
A very pretty light purple. The nose is delicate, lacy, sensual, fine-boned. Well worth another sniff. For all the delicacy of the nose, the palate delivers a slightly more sumptuous elegance, still discreet in the Domaine’s style, yet with fine persistence. Drinking range: 2027 - 2033 Rating: **** 93-95 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy (Nov 2022)
Domaine Anne Gros
Anne Gros joined her father François at the family domaine in Vosne Romanée in 1988, having given up her arts studies in favour of viticulture and oenology at Beaune and Dijon, and has run the domaine alone since 1995. The Domaine now has 6.5 hectares of Pinot and Chardonnay. Anne describes herself as being 'wary of certainties and keen to preserve her freedom'.
In the vineyards Anne practises viticulture influenced by organic and biodynamic principles, and the vineyards are ploughed and fertilised with compost, but although she believes that the long-term health of the vineyards are best preserved by such methods, she likes to maintain the freedom to use conventional treatments when necessary.
In the cellar, the wines are classically made, in cement tanks for the reds, and stainless steel for the whites. They are then are aged in barrel for up to fifteen months, with 80% new wood for the grand crus, 50% for the village wines and 30% for the regional wines. Anne is quietly meticulous and almost obsessive about cleanliness in her cellar, which perhaps is reflected in the delicacy and restrained tension in her wines, which have aromatic clarity, limpid precision, sheer joie de vivre, lively balance and persistence.
