HAUTES CÔTES DE NUITS
2021 Corvée de Villy Domaine Thibault Liger-Belair
On the plateau de Chaux, above Nuits. Deep colour. I like the balance here, fresh and bouncy, with a cassis edge, this is as good a usual. Drinking range: 2024 - 2030L&S (Oct 2022)
75cl bottles (case of 6)

This is also exceptionally bright and fresh with its array of both red and dark cherry, spice and discreet floral wisps. The palate impression is vibrant with very good delineation and a lightly minerality adding a sense of lift to the youthfully austere, clean and complex finish. This is excellent for its level and worth checking out. Drinking range: 2025 - Rating: 87-89 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2023)
The 2021 Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Corvées de Villy has an expressive, quite fresh bouquet with wild strawberry, raspberry and orange blossom aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, silky smooth with a judicious touch of spice. Maybe it lacks a bit of grip but it feels quite long and tender. Drinking range: 2024 - 2034 Rating: 88-90 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2023)
It is windy on the plateau, where the soil sits on limestone in slabs. 40% new wood. A good depth of purple, and a fine bright pinot on the nose, whereas sometimes this site can dry out. More succulent fruit than the Grands Chaillots, with a light bitterness behind, so I think this cuvée needs a little more time to knit. Drinking range: 2024 - 2027 Rating: *** 86-88 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy (Nov 2022)
Domaine Thibault Liger-Belair
Thibault Liger-Belair has two hectares in Les Saint Georges, the vineyard which gives Nuits the rest of its name, and 60 ares out of a total of 4 hectares of the Grand Cru Richebourg, as well as a good holding in the Clos Vougeot and some well-placed village wines. The vineyards are a good start, but it is Thibault himself who has catapulted this domaine straight into the very top echelons of Côte de Nuits domaines from his first vintage (2002). Thibault was trained as an oenologist but first worked as a wine buyer. He has come to wine making with a wide experience of wine buying, and has had the advantage of having discussed wine-making for many years, with the benefit of his oenological background, with some of the best winemakers of the world. Viticulture is biodynamic (since 2005), yields low but not ludicrously low, everything is pragmatic, so that he should be doing just what is necessary and no more. He uses 40-50% new wood maximum. The wines are bright, pure, focused, aromatic and elegant without lacking anything in the way of stuffing.
Please note that certain wines are on very tight allocations and will first be offered to customers who buy across the range.
