LE MUSIGNY
2021 Grand Cru Domaine Faiveley
Aged in "Musignettes", which are small, 60-liter barrels made exclusively for Faiveley, this saw 50% whole clusters. It is fresher and lighter than usual – almost weightless thanks to its supreme harmony. The oak influence is less marked than in the 2020 though light cocoa and vanilla bean notes do surface with the forest fruits. (from a .13 ha holding; 100% new wood and 50% whole clusters in 2021). Moderate wood surrounds the ripe, fresh and exotic aromas of plum, black cherry, sandalwood and jasmine tea. The sleek, concentrated and powerful largerscaled flavors exhibit excellent drive on the refined and hugely long finish where the wood reappears. This is an imposing wine in the context of the 2021 vintage and even though it is on the oaky side today, there is sufficient density to progressively integrate it over time. Drinking range: 2036 - Rating: 93-96 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2023)
Old vines here. Millerandage everywhere in the holding, so the policy is to keep whole bunches but to cut out the main stems. Noble, indeed imperial purple robe and the quality of the bouquet sings out even before my nose has got close to the glass. And then comes a little bit tingle from the whole bunch effect. Sumptuous and with a real buzz inside the darker raspberry fruit, very sensual and extremely long. Rating: **** Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy (Nov 2022)
Made with 50% whole bunches, with the main stems cut out, and aged in 100% new wood, maintaining a tradition of 150 litre barrels. Bright crimson colour. Super sumptuous nose, the meticulous treatment has worked very well here. A wonderful array of detailed red fruits on the palate, the waves keep coming, some peaches too, but not over ripe. Very charming and extremely persistent. Great job! Drinking range: 2030 - 2040 Rating: **** 94-98 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy (Nov 2022)
