Further evidence that in good cellars 2021 allows real expression of place and vineyard. The Volnay Fremiets is lovely and bright - but there is a note of nicely developed fruit too. Their Fremiets holding has more clay and this shade of mid-palate weight is clear evidence of this. Pure and red-accented, the fruit element has a charming breadth and persistence but is not heavy. Classically Volnay shaped and very 'Pinot'. Floral notes too and some well-judged spice and pepper make you aware of some sophisticated wood in use for the élevage. Good stuff. L&S (Nov 2022)

Raspberries and crushed strawberries, even though there are no whole bunches, the flavours coming from perfectly destemmed grapes which are ripe. Fills the mouth, shows a little oak, some darker cherries now at the end. Very good. Drinking range: 2027 - 2034 Rating: 91-93 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy (Oct 2022)
The 2021 Volnay Les Fremiets 1er Cru is bright and focused, very much on the lighter side, as is the case with the reds this year. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit, white pepper, rose petals and cinnamon add lovely aromatic top notes. There is Nebbiolo-like tension to the Fremiets that might not be exactly what Burgundy drinkers are looking for. Drinking range: 2024 - 2036 Rating: 90-92 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Nov 2022)
Domaine Henri Boillot
A domaine which dates to 1885, but which began properly in the early years of the 20th century under the current Henri's grandfather (also Henri). His son, Jean, was the one who really developed it. Henri arrived in 1975 and worked his way up, becoming the winemaker. In 2000 he began the building of the new winery at the bottom of Meursault, and he then bought out his brother and sister to keep the domaine as one, renaming it from 'Domaine Jean Boillot' to 'Domaine Henri Boillot' to avoid confusion with his brother Jean-Marc's domaine.
The Domaine totals around 14 hectares, with roughly equal surfaces of red and white, and of which just under 4ha is the Monopole vineyard of Clos de la Mouchère, a walled enclave within the premier Cru Puligny Perrières. The 2017 vintage saw the arrival of two new parcels of Grand Cru red, in Échezeaux and Latricières Chambertin
