RICHEBOURG
2023 Grand Cru Domaine Thibault Liger-Belair
Wow - this is remarkable for a Grand Cru barrel tasting. Explosive. So much going on here on the palate. Incredible energy. Seamless fruit. Great sweet middle. Plum skin. Blueberry ripe cherry. Aromatic and perfumed like a spray of atomised summer pudding. Intense Power so gently hiding in the background. Feels really open and charming.L&S (Nov 2024)

Cask sample. Light to mid crimson. Intoxicating sweetness of cherries in alcohol though of course not that alcoholic. A fine contrast of savoury-sweet with a light herbal note adding freshness. Complex, layered and elegant. (JH) Drinking range: 2028 - 2040 Rating: 18 Julia Harding MW, www.JancisRobinson.com (Jan 2025)
(from a .55 ha parcel). An exuberantly floral-suffused and strikingly perfumed nose is at once spicy, elegant and cool with its beautiful array of red cherry, dark raspberry, sandalwood and exotic tea scents. In much the same fashion as the LSG, the sleek and detailed larger-scaled flavors are not particularly dense though the evident minerality helps to add a sense of lift to the superbly long and equally well-balanced finale. This does need to develop better depth so at least some forbearance is definitely in order. Drinking range: 2035 - Rating: 92-94 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2025)
The 2023 Richebourg Grand Cru is vinified with 30% whole cluster and the rest destemmed by hand, raised in 80% in new oak. It has a rather conservative bouquet of mainly black fruit, brown leaves and light graphite scents. The 2023 doesn't quite engage like others. The palate is medium-bodied and well balanced with grainy tannins and fine acidity, but it needs more body and grip toward the finish. Drinking range: 2028 - 2052 Rating: 93-95 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2025)
The Richebourg has been made with 30% whole bunches, having had the main stem removed. The colour is no deeper than other wines, but the bouquet is quite superb. Thibault has hit an ethereal level over the last couple of vintages. So sensual in texture yet poised and studied, a wine of exquisite grace with a soft approach to the fruit yet an excellent tensile strength. Drinking range: 2033 - 2045 Rating: **** Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy (Nov 2024)
Domaine Thibault Liger-Belair
Thibault Liger-Belair has two hectares in Les Saint Georges, the vineyard which gives Nuits the rest of its name, and 60 ares out of a total of 4 hectares of the Grand Cru Richebourg, as well as a good holding in the Clos Vougeot and some well-placed village wines. The vineyards are a good start, but it is Thibault himself who has catapulted this domaine straight into the very top echelons of Côte de Nuits domaines from his first vintage (2002). Thibault was trained as an oenologist but first worked as a wine buyer. He has come to wine making with a wide experience of wine buying, and has had the advantage of having discussed wine-making for many years, with the benefit of his oenological background, with some of the best winemakers of the world. Viticulture is biodynamic (since 2005), yields low but not ludicrously low, everything is pragmatic, so that he should be doing just what is necessary and no more. He uses 40-50% new wood maximum. The wines are bright, pure, focused, aromatic and elegant without lacking anything in the way of stuffing.
Please note that certain wines are on very tight allocations and will first be offered to customers who buy across the range.
