From several parcels across the bottom of the village, Maladières, Mal Carrées, Gamaires and Fremières, all on fine clay. Quite a broad and deep style of Chambolle, with the signature very fine tannins, and a dense enveloping fruit. Drinking range: 2025 - 2033 L&S (Oct 2022)

A mix of five parcels, the 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Vieille Vignes has an open nose with quite pronounced damp undergrowth/mossy scents filtering through the introspective dark berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly lactic entry, smooth but it feels just a little monotone on the finish. Let's see how this shows in bottle. This left me wanting more. The Chambolle is a blend of 5 plots, mostly planted in the 1950s. 50% new wood. Lifted raspberry and strawberry with a peppery note, though this is all destemmed. A little sweetness from the oak behind, and some tannins, but not out of balance with the level of red fruit. The lack of the word 'domaine' in the name signals that this is a négociant wine from Thibault Liger-Belair. On the whole Thibault buys grapes having tended the vines with his own team, so that the wines are domaine wines in all but name.
