30% whole bunches, and this shows on a nose a little, while on the palate they being a welcome freshness. A big smiling supple Charmes, but it had a straight back too. Drinking range: 2028 - 2035 L&S (Oct 2022)

The 2021 Charmes-Chambertin Aux Charmes Grand Cru is matured with 30% whole clusters fruit. The bouquet is quite floral, well-defined, taut and linear with more mineralité than other cuvées. Hints of Earl Grey emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, silky texture and it gains weight, exerting insistent grip on the minerally, blue fruit tinged finish. Excellent. From a 1950s plot, using 30% whole bunches with the big stem removed. Mid purple, with a complex nose that does not yet feel quite in place. The lack of the word 'domaine' in the name signals that this is a négociant wine from Thibault Liger-Belair. On the whole Thibault buys grapes having tended the vines with his own team, so that the wines are domaine wines in all but name.
