Picked on the 15th or 17th of September, right at the start of the harvest and it was already ripe. Sleek and rich and pure on a very dark expression, there's something funny about tasting this in the line up of Côte de Nuits Grands Crus, it's less of an orchestral piece and more of a trumpet voluntary or French horn solo - albeit a good one. Big and bold, and Thibault's work on the extraction means the tannins are wrapped in a deep plush of fruity body. Drinking range: 2028 - 2035 L&S (Oct 2022)

The 2021 Corton-Renardes Grand Cru has a high-toned nose with kirsch and touches of liquorice, quite exotic for the growing season in question. The palate is medium-bodied with a lactic entry. It seems to lose a bit of focus here and just attenuates towards the finish - so hopefully it will fill out more in barrel. The lack of the word 'domaine' in the name signals that this is a négociant wine from Thibault Liger-Belair. On the whole Thibault buys grapes having tended the vines with his own team, so that the wines are domaine wines in all but name.
