Volnay

This is 1/3 Premier Cru (Brouillards and Ronceret). Refined style with a cooler, fresher fruit, even though still lots of volume, with very fine but present tannins. Another lovely village wine in the vintage.

4 parcels, two of which (Ronceret and Brouillard) are premiers crus. So silky - juicy fruit, red and blue, a cool fresh expression.

Tasted when racked but not yet bottled. Not as dark or rich as the Pommard Tavannes but yet again this is a big wine with plenty of red & black fruits. Sweet spice. Lots of tannic structure. Ripe, rich but well balanced.

Not much wine here - what there is elegant, floral, airier than the Auxeys.

Fragrant nose of thyme, licorice, currants and mulberries. Some orange peel. Very fresh acidity and bright fruit, with a medium body and fine-grained tannins. Precise and lengthy finish. Drink or hold.

Smoky nose, a faintly singed fruit coal-black expression (they always say Fremiets is a hot corner). Lots going on, pure and quite 'masculine', as Guillaume calls it.

80% whole bunch fermentation, The sheer minerality in this means that it is not yet as showy on the nose as it was in 2019, but otherwise it's a very similar style, with a bright but not all that dark colour, a slow move...(read more)

Nose quite compact with black cherry, palate supple, then with fine tannins building - good weight and concentration. Tannic finale, but this is all in harmony, and it is very long.
